This a blog post by John August that American McGee linked to on his forum to explain some of the reasons why we have no “American McGee’s Alice” movie. John August was involved at the beginning, helping to pitch it and writing a treatment for the potential movie. Unfortunately, the director chosen, Wes Craven, didn’t like said treatment, and thus started the movie adaptation’s trip into development hell. (August also missed out on his chance to write two other Alice in Wonderland-related movies, the hell.)
Now, why bring this up? What’s so special about John August? Well, he’s worked on a whole bunch of movies —
Including Corpse Bride.
…I swear, the universe just WANTS these two together.

The chapter of awkward explanations!

Londerland is a visual and symbolic representation of Alice’s merging of the psychological and real world. In the first game Alice overcame her internal demons to master her mental space. In the second game she uses that power to defeat a real-world threat to her physical and mental self. In effect, by the end of Madness Returns, Alice has become a sort of “super hero” - able to blur the boundary between imagination and reality. This sort of thematic concept is present in a lot of hero tales. And it’s echoed in the alchemy symbols found throughout the game.

malenkaya-rose asked: You're very welcome! :) Hm, I think I like the Losing-Finding-Forgetting You idea, but the song idea is also very good. If Finding You deals with Victor falling in love with Alice, maybe the alternative title could be Simply Meant to Be (since Not the One's title is a nod to Sally's Song, Finding You/Simply Meant to Be could be a nod to the reprise that Jack and Sally sing together).
:) I do too, though I also like the song titles… This might need some more thinking. “Finding You” is actually about Victor moving into Houndsditch and the way Victor and Alice’s relationship develops — might be a bit too early for “Simply Meant to Be.”

malenkaya-rose asked: I've read both chapters and I personally think that they're fantastic. You've nailed all the characters and portrayed them perfectly and I can definitely picture all of this happening right after the movie's events. Not the One would be a good nod to Sally's Song, but Losing You is also a great title, if you want to keep it.
Aww, thank you! I’ve been trying to keep everybody in-character as much as possible. And yeah — the reason I’m thinking of changing it is because originally the three stories were called “Losing You,” “Finding You,” and “Forgetting You.” But then I thought about calling the last one “Don’t You Forget About Me,” and the idea of retitling them after appropriate songs came up. *shrugs* I still need an alternate title for “Finding You” in that case.

Hey — I’ve finally started writing up the backstory for my first RP Victor, Forgotten Vows. I’m planning on it being a trilogy — first story about what happened directly after Corpse Bride, second about Victor moving into Houndsditch and becoming friends with Alice, and third about Madness Returns and Victor’s influence on/adventures during that. I’ve got two chapters of the first story, currently titled “Losing You” up on my LJ — you’re welcome to read and give me some comments on what you think! (And perhaps some ideas on a better title — I’m not sure if I’m satisfied with that one.)

Reblogging this for the afternoon crowd — also, I’m thinking of changing the title of “Losing You” to “Not The One.” Thoughts?
Reblogging AGAIN because for some idiotic reason it reblogged this to the liddellvandort blog and I couldn’t reblog it to my own again directly. TUMBLR WTF I’VE SEEN PEOPLE REBLOG THEIR OWN SHIT BEFORE
